On Tuesday, April 22, more than one billion people across 190 countries are expected to participate in Earth Day 2014.

Now in its 44th year, Earth Day is designed to engage communities around the globe in addressing the unique environmental challenges we face. Many will choose to plant trees, clean up their local communities, or urge elected officials to put forth legislation that will protect our environment.

At King Relocation Services, we celebrate Earth Day year round through our commitment to conserving precious natural resources, and protecting air quality. One of the ways we do this is by complying with the air quality guidelines for carriers and shippers, set by the California Air Resources Board, or CARB.

Founded in 1968, the mission of CARB is to “promote and protect public health, welfare and ecological resources through the effective and efficient reduction of air pollutants, while recognizing and considering the effects on the economy of the state.”

CARB’s primary goals include:

- Providing safe, clean air to all Californians

- Protecting the public from exposure to toxic air contaminants

- Reducing California’s emission of greenhouse gases

- Providing leadership in implementing and enforcing air pollution control rules and regulations

- Providing innovative approaches for complying with air pollution rules and regulations

- Basing decisions on best possible scientific and economic information

For King Relocation Services’ customers, CARB means that every move we make is done with the preservation of our environment in mind. For example, we have made the required investments to ensure that all of our moving trucks are CARB compliant.

Additionally, we will only engage with CARB-compliant trucks for domestic and international goods relocations, which means that we are able to meet United Van Lines’ requirements which specify all interstate moves must be made by CARB-compliant trucks.

Not all relocation companies can boast such a high level of CARB compliance, or commitment to the environment.

So, whether you are responsible for handling the relocation of your corporate employees, planning an upcoming office move, or looking for a resource for household goods relocation, we hope that you will think of King Companies as your “eco-friendly” relocation resource.

Top Five Reasons that Businesses Relocate

March 12th, 2014 by Suzanne Collier

At King Office Services, we help businesses of all sizes relocate, whether they are moving down the street, across town, or to another state. And, unlike residential moves, which tend to be more seasonal, peaking during the summer months and again at the end or beginning of each year, businesses are on the move year-round.

Decades of experience in providing relocation services for office and residential moves has taught us there are a variety of reasons that a business will choose to relocate.

Here are our top five picks:

  1. Upsizing/downsizing: Businesses that are busting at the seams, or find themselves with too many empty offices or cubicles on their hands will relocate to find offices that can better accommodate their needs.
  2. Reducing the cost of doing business: If the landlord has increased the rent, even incrementally, or if property and business taxes are on the rise, businesses will look for office space that costs less, or that is located where they can take advantage of tax incentives. As a result of the Great Recession, many cities, counties and states are becoming more competitive in an effort to propel economic growth by offering tax breaks for businesses that move into the area.
  3. More efficient workspaces: If the office layout does not support the way a business’s employees like to work (i.e. more face-to-face collaboration with colleagues and clients), the business will look for a better space that will accommodate those needs.
  4. Talent pool: If the business is having difficulty hiring the right talent, they may need to relocate to an area where the skills and expertise they need is more readily available.
  5. Neighborhood appeal: Neighborhoods that provide certain amenities for employees such as nearby dining and entertainment, health clubs, walking trails or other recreational activities, can be very attractive to businesses.

Regardless of the reason your office is relocating, King Office Services is a one-stop shop for small and large offices, manufacturing and technical facilities, and professional businesses. We offer a 100% on-time completion track record and tailored services ranging from project management, to computer and furniture installations, to post-move follow-up. With King Office Services, you can rest assured that with any office relocation, down-time will be minimal so you can get up and running as quickly as possible.

We understand that you have many choices when it comes to relocating your office, and we hope that you will consider King Companies to be your “go-to” resource in the future. To learn more about our office relocation services, visit www.kingcompaniesusa.com.

Thanks to recent technology advances, most of the information we need to live our lives is available 24/7 via our smartphones, tablets and laptop computers. From banking and shopping, to sharing our most treasured moments with friends and family via social networking, mobile technologies and applications have become an integral part of modern life. It may come as no surprise then, that these same technologies are also making it easier for consumers to decide when and how to relocate their household goods.

At King Relocation Services, for example, our representatives are using the Apple iPad™ platform to access Quotes-to-Go, a proprietary, web-based customer service application introduced by United Van Lines in 2011. With Quotes-to-Go, our representatives are able to simplify the decision-making that takes place around relocation, by providing our customers with:

- Quick access to results from relocation surveys
- Real-time pricing estimates for relocation services
- Side-by-side quote comparisons
- Electronic acceptance of moving documents and contracts
- Easy-to-read inventories

With Quotes-to-Go, representatives of King Relocation Services can effectively increase efficiencies during the moving process, from the initial estimating appointment to the delivery of our customer’s household goods. And, Quotes-to-Go provides our operations team with real-time visibility into demand for services in particular markets, so that we can more accurately anticipate ebbs and flow in demand, and allocate resources accordingly.

As you can see, King Relocation Services, along with United Van Lines and its parent company, UniGroup, are on the cutting-edge when it comes to leveraging technology to simplify and streamline household goods relocation. In fact, in 2012 UniGroup ranked No. 12 in the InformationWeek 500, a list of the top technology innovators in the U.S., for its innovation in the development of the Quotes-to-Go technology.

We know that you have many choices when it comes to relocating your household goods, and we hope that you will consider King Companies to be your “go-to” resource in the future. To learn more about our household goods relocation services, visit www.kingcompaniesusa.com.

Since 1977, United Van Lines has been tracking migration patterns on a state-by-state basis. In 2013, the study looked at household moves handled by United Van Lines and its agents within the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C.

Some of the highlights from the 37th Annual Migration Study included:

Oregon became the top moving destination in 2013 with 61% of moves to the state being inbound ones.
District of Columbia fell from the top spot on the 2012 inbound list, ranking fourth behind North Carolina.
• New additions in 2013 to the inbound list included South Dakota, Texas and Colorado.
• After 16 years near the top of the outbound list, Michigan finally balanced the scales this year, reporting nearly as many inbound moves as outbound in 2013.
New Jersey again claimed the top spot on the outbound list, a position that it has held for three of the last four years.

There are many factors that impact migration patterns across the U.S. These can include business incentives and prompt employers to relocate their operations to reduce taxes or broaden the talent pool. Often, people will relocate to achieve a lower cost of living; take advantage of amenities provided by their desired city including arts and cultural opportunities, the club and restaurant scene, family-friendly events and activities, public transit, and cleaner living.

If you relocated across the country or to a different state in 2013, we invite you to join the conversation by commenting on why you chose the location your moved to last year. Or, if you are planning to move in the coming year, what factors are you considering in choosing your new city of residence?

With the exception of retail, hospitality and travel-related industries, the last few weeks of the year are a time when many businesses experience a slow-down due to holiday celebrations, and a greater number of employees are taking time off to spend with friends and family. As such, late November and December can be the perfect time to relocate a business, as any disruptions caused by the move will have less impact on workflow than they would during times of peak productivity.

However, while this time of year may seem ideal for an office move, if you are considering a relocation during the final weeks of the year, keep in mind that your organization may not be alone in opting to move over the holidays.

To ensure that your move goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Plan Ahead: Be sure to contact your relocation company as far in advance as possible to schedule your holiday season move. Dates during this time of year can book up quickly!
  • Be Flexible: If your desired date isn’t available, identify other dates near your desired date and be willing to slide your move by a few days if needed.
  • Hire a Reliable Relocation Firm: Don’t let just anyone relocate your office. It is best to hire a professional relocation firm that has the tools and experience to efficiently move your business.
  • Coordinate with Building Managers: Be sure to work with your building managers at your current location and at your new offices to ensure that the facilities are open and available during your move. This includes having access to freight elevators and other areas of the facilities that you will need during your move, and that may not be generally open to tenants.
  • Use Holiday Cards to Communicate the News of Your Move: If you are already sending holiday cards to your customers, business partners and other key stakeholders, lighten your burden during this busy time of year by using this as an opportunity to also communicate with them regarding your new address and relocation dates.

When it comes to professional household goods relocation, most people think of traditional van services as the primary method for moving from one location to the next; and, while it remains one of the most common ways to engage with professional movers, traditional van service is not without its limitations.

For example, if you have ever tried to move during the summer months, you know that it can be challenging to schedule a moving company, due to the limited capacity of most traditional van services; and, in the event that you are unable to find a relocation company to accommodate your desired move date, you may end up rescheduling the move for a time that isn’t the most convenient for you. This can put other elements of the relocation in jeopardy such as the rental or sale of property, the start date for a new job, or even school enrollment for your children.

King Companies, an agent of United Van Lines, a UniGroup Company, understands these challenges and that is why we offer premium, container-based moving services that provide flexible, convenient and dependable on-time service, even during peak periods. Our full-service container solutions also offer a safe and secure way of moving household goods that reduces the risk of damage or lost items on small orders, and they can be a and cost-effective way to relocate your household goods leveraging our network of established UniGroup agents..

With King Relocation Services’ full-service container solutions, our customers benefit from:

No Guesswork

You decide when your household goods will be loaded and when you want them to arrive at your new home. You can take your time and have it delivered when you arrive or you can choose expedited service and get your items to your new home in less time. Day certain loading and unloading dates give you the opportunity to accurately plan the details of your move.

Convenient Storage without the Added Fees

We know that life can be unpredictable, especially when you’re selling or buying a home. Should the need arise, you can easily place your household goods in storage for up to 21 days, without incurring added costs, and extend that time if needed for a low monthly fee. Because your items will never be handled during the storage process, there is less chance of loss or damage.

Safety and Security for Your Belongings

With exclusive use of the container, you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that your container is loaded and sealed with only your belongings, and never mixed with anyone else’s.
