3 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

3 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

3 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

3 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

For nearly 50 years, people have been gathering together to celebrate Earth Day. Today, with more than 1 billion people participating in Earth Day activities each year, it has become the largest civic observance in the world. This year, Earth Day will be celebrated on Sunday, April 22, and the theme designated by the Earth Day Network is “End Plastic Pollution.”

There are a number of ways that individuals, organizations and educators can get involved and take action to end plastic pollution and promote other environmental causes and initiatives. These include:

  • Host or attend an event. Join others in your local community in building awareness. Participating in Earth Day events and celebrations is also a great way to make an impact by helping to promote environmental causes, meet like-minded people who are interested in conservation and the environment, and even have a little fun along the way!
  • Gathering information regarding the environmental causes you care about, and then sharing this information on your blog or social media platforms can go a long way toward building awareness and engaging others in the Earth Day movement.
  • Many organizations appreciate and accept both in-kind and monetary donations which they can then use to further conservation efforts and build awareness around environmental issues.

If you are looking for ways to participate in Earth Day in your community, local newspapers and community websites are a great resource. There, you’ll likely find listings for activities such as beach, park and woodland clean-ups, educational events, and much more taking place on Earth Day.

And, while Earth Day is a fantastic way to demonstrate support for the environment, don’t forget that there are many other ways in which we as individuals, or as a group, can help support the environmental movement. Smaller contributions such as sorting waste into trash and recyclables, using re-usable water bottles, or leveraging the many tools we have available today to conserve water and energy at our homes and workplaces, can go a long way toward creating a sustainable and healthy planet, when done on a regular basis.

Every Day is Earth Day at King Companies

At King Companies, we celebrate Earth Day year-round through the King Office Services’ Green Removal Program. Offering access to a nationwide network of established resources including liquidators, charities and other organizations that are available to assist our valued clients in “greening” their reduction efforts, our Green Removal Program focuses on the 4 R’s — Resell, Repurpose, Recycle and Remove.

  • Resell (100% Green) – This is always the preferred method of disposal, but due to the volume of used goods in the market today, reselling or liquidating unwanted furniture, fixtures and equipment has become increasingly difficult. If successful, though, it can yield the least cost and can even provide you with a profit. It is important to note that the possibility of selling unwanted items depends on the age, condition and time available to market and sell the goods.
  • Repurpose (100% Green) – Repurposing or reusing unwanted goods by giving them to a charity or nonprofit group is a great way to avoid the landfill, while at the same time supporting a good cause. Our network of charities includes more than 1,000 local nonprofits here in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Recycle (95% Green) – Wood, plastics, metals and other materials can be separated into proper recycling condition and then incorporated into other goods. Remember that collected materials can go well beyond the basics and include e-waste, hazardous waste, and more. Through King Companies you can gain access to reputable firms that are experienced in recycling these items.
  • Remove and Dispose (70% Green) – As the last resort for reducing goods, removal should not be confused with recycling. The fact is that even with widespread recycling, 30% or more of unwanted items today end up in landfills. This not only costs you money through the fees to pay to access the landfill, but it will also impact our planet for years to come.

Additionally, we want our customers to know that King Companies’ commitment to the environment goes well beyond green removal. In fact, for every office relocation, our King Office Services team recommends the use of re-usable plastic crates vs. cardboard boxes. Because there is no recycling involved, only re-use with our crates, it helps to reduce the overall carbon footprint.
