Five Modern Day Office Amenities that Attract “Millennials”

Five Modern Day Office Amenities that Attract “Millennials”

October 20, 2016 By King Office

Five Fun Things to Do After You Move

The “workstyles” of today are vastly different from those more than 50 years ago when  King Companies was founded, and there are two reasons for this – the evolving workday and a younger workforce.

First of all, a typical work day for most is no longer “9 to 5” but rather “5 to 9.” Juggling work, family and personal priorities, many of us rise early to get a jump start on our e-mail and correspondence before heading to the office. We will then work all day at the office, only to log back into our computers after dinner to finish any projects that weren’t completed during the day, or to get a head start on the next day’s correspondence.

Next, with many baby boomers hitting retirement age, “millennials” are now becoming the largest generation in the workforce, according to researchers. These younger workers are quickly changing our perceptions of office life as they want to work in vibrant, collaborative workspaces and have the flexibility to come and go as they please. And, because they are concerned about being healthy and productive, they want to access high-quality, yet affordable dining options and fitness facilities. And, they want to be connected at all times.

The evolving needs of the workforce are driving many commercial real-estate developers across the country and around the globe to re-think the traditional office space. Today, businesses can find modern workspaces offering amenities that previous generations only dreamed about. If you are looking to attract workers to your business who want to work hard, but desire greater flexibility, here are some of the modern day office amenities you should consider offering:

Open Workspaces and Lounges. Rooms with couches, bean bags and charging stations for smartphones, tablets and laptop computers will help employees feel comfortable and more at home in the workplace. These are also great places for teams to meet to collaborate. Consider providing lockers for personal items and valuables so employees don’t feel they need to be tied to a desk.

Green Space. A rooftop garden or outdoor patio space encourages employees to take their work outside when the weather permits. Fresh air and sunshine can help fuel creativity, and this is yet another place where teams can collaborate on projects. Don’t forget to provide access to outdoor charging stations for smartphones, tablets and computers.

Dining. Pressed for time, employees don’t want to go far when they need a cup of coffee, a power smoothie or a healthy lunch or dinner. Locating your office in a building with a coffee shop and/or juice bar on premises is a smart move. Better yet, if there are several reasonably-priced restaurants within walking distance, it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

Spa and Fitness Center. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and access to an on-site gym can help employees maintain good mental and physical health. Consider offering on-site massage and other spa services to help employees relax and rejuvenate.

Concierge Services. Let’s face it, when we work as much as we do today, it can be difficult to schedule in even the most mundane tasks and errands. A concierge can drop-off and pick-up dry cleaning, make reservations for lunch and dinner, schedule a dog walker, or even set appointments with a hairdresser or barber. As a result, employees are happier and less stressed because they gain more time in their day to focus on other priorities. Some buildings even have dry cleaners, beauty salons and dog walkers on-site, which makes it even more convenient to complete errands and routine tasks.

If your current building doesn’t offer these or other amenities you or your employees desire, and you are looking to relocate to a more modern office space,  King Office Services is here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (800) 854-3679. Our experts are standing by!
